ChTC and your Business - Wellbeing in the Workplace at Pro-Psych Coaching

At ChTC we have a team of psychologists. We are also Coaches at Pro-Psych Coaching. This is an important 'off-shoot' of ChTC. Our aim is to help you create a positive work culture and promote wellbeing. Specifically, we aim to work with individuals who could suffer from stress in the workplace. We are seeing a significant rise in the numbers of clients suffering from work related stress. By the time we see these clients, they are ready to collapse and often on the point of taking sick leave or changing jobs. As a result, we have been prompted to develop a program specifically designed for businesses.

Using Business Emotional Intelligence, we are able to assess the emotional 'health' of your staff. This indicates how well they know their own emotions, how easily they harness and regulate their emotions to deal with difficult situations and how much their emotions impact on others and vice versa. This program uses a preventative approach to combat the inevitable impact of stress at work. If the issues can be identified early on, staff turnover and absenteeism could drop dramatically.

Individuals with weak emotional competencies may display some of the following behaviours:

  • be defensive when they feel criticized
  • avoid difficult conversations
  • become controlling and directive when they feel overwhelmed
  • shut down and remain quiet when there is conflict in a meeting
  • poor performance
  • absenteeism
The first stage of the program is to assess the employee's Emotional Intelligence (EI) through the use of a dedicated psychometric. The Business Emotional Intelligence assessment, which can be done privately by the individual on their own computer, is translated into 8 behaviours and attitudes such as decision making, adaptability and stress resilience. The assessment accurately evaluates the degree to which the employee is self-aware and can regulate their emotions and behaviours. It also highlights the extent to which the employee is aware of the emotions and behaviours of other people, the impact that those have on co-workers and how they are perceived by others.

In the feedback session following the assessment, it will be clear which areas require further one-to-one or group coaching; the individual will understand their emotional drivers and underlying behaviours and will understand what to do with this information. Further work takes place during a course of 6 - 8 coaching sessions which can take place face to face or on the telephone. In some cases, where there are a number of employees going through the process, it is helpful to do the coaching in a group session for example, 'stress resilience' and 'mindfulness'.

The aim of the coaching sessions is to raise the levels of EI. Employees who score highly in EI tend to be happier and more productive in the workplace and less prone to absenteeism. When we have used the EI psychometric program as part of clients' therapeutic rehabilitation, the results have been significant. The common response is "I can’t believe how accurate it is." It has helped those clients either to work on specific areas for personal development or, in some cases, it has led to clients changing direction at work.
